Hello, Dragon Fight looks really cool, but I'm confused about how the kite templates are supposed to work? Do they show your turning arc? Or do you need to make a special template for that?

ReplyDeleteHi Ser1ph, thanks for trying this game.
ReplyDeleteYou need the pdf download for Dragonfight: http://www.loran.karoo.net/dragon_fight.pdf
This has illustrations that should help explain.
Until I saw your comments, I had not realised the pdf was not on the blog! The html page is rather incomplete.
Also some of the play test blog pages may help explain how the game works.
Thanks for posting,
Best regards,
Chris Nicole

That's the diagram on page 16 right? I have the rulebook and I'll admit to feeling very stupid but I'm not seeing how use the templates to determine how far you can turn even with the diagram. I can sort of see where the templates have the correct angles in them. But the distances are wrong when I do that.
ReplyDeleteHi Ser1ph,
DeleteThe diagram on page 16 is the one I meant. Just move the Kite template around to determine which angle you need, then move it again to get the correct side for your movement distance.

Chris
Ah ok, I'm going to try making a turning template as well to see if that works, I guess I have two more kind of silly questions. A Dragon can do a melee attack on anyone within one body template of the point you measure from right? And second for movement do you move the measuring point up to the distance, or do you "hop" the template like in X-wing? Thank you for explaining the templates to me.
DeleteHi Ser1ph,
DeleteWhen I can find time, I will have to put some better illustrations of turns and manoeuvres on the site. :)
1- All measurements should be taken from the same point. Typically that is the dragon's nose or a mark on the front of their base.
2- Move the measuring point up to the distance. As there is no set size for Dragons or flying stands/bases, hopping could give an unfair advantage to bigger models.
There are still some vague areas of rules in Dragon Fight, so any questions that help clarify things are useful.
Have fun and let me know how you get on.
Regards,
Chris
